On October 27th Shane English Vietnam held its annual Shanefest on the 6th floor Hall of the Vietnam News Agency building in the center of Ho Chi Minh City. This year we decided on a Halloween-themed event and after a slightly rocky start the event ran smoothly and was enjoyed by students, parents and staff alike.
There was a great turnout of over 250 students and many parents also attended to observe the events and join in the activities.
The 3-hour program featured a variety of performances from young learners of all ages ranging from 4 to 15. They were primarily Halloween-themed but also included some classic Shane songs. Songs included, but werenât limited to âWe like to walkâ, âMonster Mashâ and âThrillerâ. There was a Costume Competition, team events of Guess the Monster, of course a Halloween Spelling Bee and some very messy Apple Bobbing.
The highlights of the event had to be the two plays, âThree Brothersâ, a short story from the Harry Porter series and âCinderellaâ. These plays were planned and organized by Vietnamese staff who worked around the clock with the students and rehearsing in a very limited time frame. The students took to the stage with no fear and gave fantastic performances.
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to making the event such a memorable one. Especially to our Vietnamese staff and teachers who worked so hard in preparing the students and activities.
We are already looking forward to next yearâs event!
