The key to learning English is to make it as fun as possible. One of the best ways to do this is to listen to English songs and music. There is scientific evidence that shows music helps second language learners gain vocabulary, improve spelling and gain a better understanding of grammar.

If you are struggling to pick up new words or just want to add a fun dynamic to your learning, here are some quick tips to help you find the right music to improve your English.

Go To The Right Places for Songs

YouTube and Vimeo both have large libraries of English songs for you to choose from. There are even lyric videos of songs where the lyrics are subtitled in time with the music. This is an excellent way to improve your listening skills while still making sure you understand the song at the same time.

Choose The Right Songs

Don’t listen to music you do not love. Search through genres and find English speaking singers that make songs you enjoy. There is no point listening to pop music like Britney Spears if you hate it. Make your English learning journey fun, and you will find yourself learning the language a lot faster.

Study The Lyrics and Vocabulary

Learning English songs is a fun way to pick up new vocabulary, but you still need to review the vocab on a regular basis. Search for the lyrics on Google and break down the song word by word. See if you can understand what the song is about and practise using new words in different sentences.

By listening to English songs every day you will be surprised how fast you pick up new vocabulary and begin to understand English without having to translate the words into your native tongue.
